Taekwondo was founded
on 11th April 1955 by General Choi Hong Hi (9th Dan).
In Korea it is practiced
in schools, law enforcement agencies and in the Korean
military. Tae Kwon-Do was introduced to the Olympic
Games in Seoul Korea in 1988. Now it’s a successful
Olympic Sport.
There are two World
Governing Bodies. The first is (WTF) World Taekwondo
Federation which is the Olympic Sport Taekwondo.
The second is (ITF)
International Taekwondo Federation.
There are five tenants
of Taekwondo:
- Courtesy
- Integrity
- Perseverance
- Self-Control
- Indomitable Spirit

The Sport
This is optional and has two separate
sections.
Patterns:
Concentration, technique, skill, balance, dynamics
and elegance are required for the fundamentals of
sequences against an imaginary opponent.
Sparring:
These matches are semi-contact with compulsory safety
equipment which is worn to avoid any risk of injury.
This is fast and aspiring to watch. It is described
as beauty of the physical form. The results are decided
through a point scoring system. The referees keep
strict control on contact.
